BANGS — Bangs area residents who are convinced they make the best ice cream anywhere will have an opportunity to prove it Friday.

Fern Sheppard, who is in charge of the ice cream contest at the annual Bangs Freedom Celebration on Friday night, is urging area residents to bring a freezer of ice cream for judging when they attend the festivities at Memorial Stadium in Bangs.

“We really need more freezers so ice cream will be available for those attending,” Sheppard said this week.

The ice cream brought to the celebration will be sold, and 100 percent of the proceeds will be returned to the contestants bringing in the top two winners.

Judging will be done by out-of-town residents, Sheppard said, with 65 percent of sales going to the first place winner and 35 percent of sales going to the second place winner.

“We’re asking that people bring their ice cream freezers still iced, so we won’t have milk shakes by the time the event is over,” Sheppard said. She asked that the dasher be removed to help volunteers scoop for customers.

The third annual Freedom Celebration in Bangs will conclude with a fireworks display, kicking off a series of area Fourth of July activities.
