Bulletin Staff Report

Entries in the ninth annual Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit of Brownwood will begin arriving this evening at the Depot Civic and Cultural Center.

Artists who do come by today will probably beat the rush of potential exhibitors who often wait until the second day to answer the call.

Exhibit planners said art works may be submitted for the show, scheduled Feb. 4-17, from 5 to 7 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday. A non-refundable entry fee of $10 is required for each entry and payable at time of entry. The maximum number of entries from each artist is three.

Specific eligibility requirements are described in a prospectus available from local chambers of commerce, local art associations or the Web sites brownwoodtx.com/away/away_tour_arts.asp or www.brownwoodart.com.

Under a new rule this year, all art exhibited must be for sale. All sales will be handled through the Arts Council of Brownwood, and a 20 percent donation is required for sales generated by the exhibition.

The exhibit is supported by the City of Brownwood, the Arts Council of Brownwood, Jane Ellen Jamar and the Kohler Company.

Juror for this year’s exhibit is Stanley Irvin, associate professor of art at St. Edwards University in Austin.

Cash awards ranging from $100 to $1,000 will be presented at a ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9.

The second annual Paint-Off Competition will be held on Saturday, Feb. 10, with offering a cash prize of $500. Registration for this event will be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m. that morning, with a $20 fee.
