The Brown County Historical Commission continues to offer pioneer family certificates to those who wish to apply for them.

“It has been some time since we have had any response from interested parties,” Jerry Spain, vice chairman of the commission, said. “Hopefully we can continue the program a while longer.”

Spain said 228 certificates have been issued recognizing the early families who settled in Brown County.

“We know there are many families still eligible and we’re giving them one last chance to apply,” Spain said.

To be eligible, ancestors must have been residents of Brown County prior to Dec. 31, 1910. An application must be completed and a $15 fee paid when the application is submitted to the commission.

Applications for the program can be obtained from Spain. Mail requests to him at 1507 Vincent St., Brownwood TX 76801, or call 646-2934.
