A man charged with breaking down the door of a residence on Chaparral Drive in Early on Sunday and assaulting a man is being held in Brown County Jail.

Alva Duane Sikes, 22, told Early Police officer John Mills and Brownwood Police officer Ray Slayton when they arrested him at a Dartmore address in Brownwood on Monday that he had beat the victim because he had assaulted Sikes’ sister.

Early Police Chief David Mercer’s report, the investigation is continuing into the incident. According to the jail report, Sikes was arrested on Friday by sheriff’s deputy Pete Bastardo on a possession of marijuana charge. Sikes had posted bail and was released Saturday. The burglary and assault occurred on Sunday and Sikes was arrested again on Monday.

Mercer also reported these incidents:

• Barry Daniels was arrested on Saturday by Early Police officer Reese Shaffer on warrants from the Brown County Sheriff’s Office for allowing livestock to run at large.

• Shaffer also took a report of 2008 flat bed utility trailer loaded with a riding lawnmower, a weed eater and two four-wheelers stolen from 1000 block of Early Boulevard. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Early Police Department or Crime Stoppers.

• Mills checked a “suspicious person” at Mills County State Bank at midnight Saturday. The man had several warrants from the sheriff’s office for traffic violations and Mills arrested him.

• Mills also arrested a Kimberly Ann Adkins for shoplifting and on multiple Brownwood Police Department warrants.
