Registration continues this week for the annual Lighted Christmas Parade that will make its way through the streets of downtown Brownwood beginning at 6 p.m. Friday.

The parade, sponsored by Southside Church, will feature the Salvation Army as its grand marshal, and the Brownwood Service Unit will be represented by Executive Director Donna Harris. The Bulletin incorrectly reported on Sunday that Harris was the grand marshal.

This year’s parade is themed, “The Spirit of Christmas.”

The parade will help kick off the Christmas Under The Stars Festival held Friday and Saturday.

“The Southside Church family is thrilled to have this opportunity to give back to the community and we hope to inspire others to do so as well,” said Eric Evans, pastor of worship and administration at Southside Church.

Registration is open to anyone wanting to be a part of the parade. There is no entry fee, but all participants in the parade are encouraged to support a non-profit organization of their choosing to show the spirit of Christmas to the community. Parade registration and information is available online at, and forms can be picked up at the Southside Church office at 1219 Indian Creek. All participants must register by noon Thursday.

Line up and judging for the parade will take place at 4:30 p.m. Friday. Awards will be given to participants in the following categories: Best of Parade (overall entry that best develops Theme, Design and Lighting), Grand Marshal’s Choice (entry that best exemplifies the Parade Theme), Club/Civic Organization, Equine, Company/Industry, Religious, School, Vehicle, and Band.
