Four men managed to cash bad checks for nearly $4,900 at a Brownwood check-cashing business, police said.
Officer Brandon Miller was dispatched Thursday to Checks Plus, 557 W. Commerce, where an employee said three men had come in on Oct. 29 to cash checks ó two for $977 and one for $885, Millerís report states.
The men presented Mexico identification cards and left after cashing the checks. A fourth man entered and cashed checks for $983 and $975. He said one of the checks belonged to a friend, Millerís report states.
As the man left, he looked up at the camera near the door and made an obscene gesture.
The checks, which had information showing they were from an Energy dairy on a bank account in Dublin, were returned as being altered or fictitous.
Bank officials said the account had been closed and altered checks for more than $29,000 had been written on the account.
