BANGS – Preparations are under way for the 2009 Christmas parade here, scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Dec. 12, with lineup beginning at 5. This year’s parade is sponsored by the Bangs Business Association.
The lighted parade will leave Gantt Street at 5:30 p.m., turn right onto Highway 586 and go one block before turning right on Fitzgerald and heading west to South First Street. The route will then see the entrants turn right on South First and head north on Kyle Street to South Third Street. The parade continues with a jaunt down down Third Street before heading south on Spencer, and ending at the city park.
At the conclusion of the parade, everyone in attendance is invited to the Bangs Community Center for free hot chocolate and cookies, provided by the association. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand visiting with children.
Larry Traweek, parade organizer for the Bangs Business Association, said no deadline has been established to participate, but advance sign-up will allow planners to more easily prepare. Traweek said he looks forward to the public involvement.
“We would love to see some folks with old cars and some horses in the parade,” Traweek said. “Churches, civic organizations – anyone that wants to be in the parade, just let us know.”
Traweek said there will be one Santa Claus for the parade.
For information or to sign up, call Traweek at 642-4420, or Terry Bennie at 647-1480. No entry fees will be charged to enter the parade, and the entire community is welcome.
