This year's third annual Christmas Under the Stars Festival will begin its two-day run at 4 p.m. today at the Depot Plaza and Lehnis Railroad Museum, and continue until 8 p.m. Events will resume from 4-8 p.m. Saturday.
With the possibility of rain in the forecast, officials with the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce said Thursday that events will go on regards of the weather, even if outdoor events have to be moved inside the Depot, Adams Street Community Center or a large tent in the Depot parking lot.
The festival promises holiday fun for all ages with hometown entertainment, food and refreshments activities for children, competitions and other attractions. Santa's Sleigh 5K Run will also be held Saturday at Gordon Wood Stadium. Local talent will be showcased under the Pavilion, and a movie will be shown on the lawn.
The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce, KTAB News, and 3M are festival sponsors. KTAB News will broadcast live from the event at 5 and 6 p.m. today, and a program will also be broadcast from the site at 4 p.m. today.
Activities scheduled for both days include the following: giant slide, bounce houses, letters to Santa (in the Depot), story telling (in the Depot), photos with Santa (at the Lehnis Railroad Museum), sports challenge basketball, bungee run, decorate giant gingerbread house, decorate pet foot bowls, pictures with Snickers the Dog, Christmas cards to Santa, making marshmallow poppers, cookie decorating, decorate Christmas bags, make wooden crosses, marshmallow game, face painting
decorate snowmen ornaments, nail painting and rock wall climbing.
Competitions will include Santa's Sleigh 5K Run and 1.5 Mile Walk sponsored by TexasBank beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday Gordon Wood Stadium; Treats for Santa Bake-off at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Bertrand Technology Solutions Meeting Room in the Chamber of Commerce; Frosty's Village Building Contest for those age 12 and under at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Depot; Christmas Photo Contest from 4-8 p.m. both days in the Depot; scavenger hunt for ages 13-18 at 5 p.m. Saturday in the plaza area; Amazing Race at 4:30 p.m. Saturday under the tent in Depot parking lot; and Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree Dance at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Depot.
Entertainment sponsored by PF& E Oil Company will include Christmas karaoke, skits performed by Lyric Theatre Performers and community choirs, all in the Depot; local talent at the pavilion; and movie on the lawn.
Food items will include chili and Frito pie, popcorn, hot dogs, funnel cakes, hot chocolate, hot cider, sausage wraps and soda.
Donations may be made for a food drive to benefit Good Samaritan Ministries, a toy drive to benefit Toys for Kids, and a coat and blanket drive to benefit Salvation Army.
Lighted Christmas displays will be sponsored by Abilene Regional Airport, Coggin Avenue Medical Park, Day Stone, Girling Home Health, Grooms Seed, Heartland Funeral Home of Early, Mid-Tex Cellular, SMK Fabricators and Willie's T's.
