Ethel Marie (McBroom) Gay, 76, of Brownwood, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016.

Visitation and memorial will be held Friday, May 6, 2016, starting at 1 p.m. for visitation and 2 p.m. for the memorial at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel, with Ted Kell officiating. No interment services are planned. The family plans to celebrate both the lives of Marie and her sister, Frances Ann (McBroom) Thompson, at this time.

Marie, known as “Nurse Gay” at Brownwood Regional Memorial Hospital for 20 years, “Aunt E” by many nephews and nieces, and “Nannie” by grandkids and great-grandkids, was born Nov. 2, 1939 to Alexander “Alex” Moreland McBroom and Myrtle Marie Huff.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her daughter, Diana Marie Gay Woodward, who died April 25, 2011; a grandson, Tommy Lynn Woodward, Nov. 28, 1981; and her sister, Frances Ann (McBroom) Thompson, April 23, 2014.

Known for her sweet nature, her crocheted pillow cases, her love for her dogs, Muffy, Tiki, and Cici, and her collection of Elvis Presley memorabilia, she had many friends and neighbors who will miss her terribly. Marie was a member of Austin Avenue Church of Christ in Brownwood.

Marie is survived by a sister, Martha “Marty” McBroom Ketchersid, of Abilene; grandchildren, Stacy (Michael) Busch of Waco, Laura (Jarrod) Coffman of Waco and Randy Woodward; brother-in-law, Claude Thompson of Dallas (loved her as a sister); six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and friends, Ruby Maldonado, Minessa Mesic, Pat Waddle, and Juanita Karnes, who helped care for her on a daily basis.

In lieu of flowers, please give to favorite charity or memorial.
