John Carroll Brown was born Dec. 19, 1931 to Milton Sheridan Brown and Eva Lee McCutcheon Brown in Stidham, Okla. He grew up in Armona and Hanford, Calif. He left high school early to attend Harding College, in Searcy, Ark. While attending college, he met and fell in love with Carldene Williams. They married June 21, 1953.
John is survived by his wife Carldene, and his six children, their spouses, eight grandchildren and one great-grandson: Debbie Brown; Loran, Diane and Rebecca Brown; Mandy and Kyle Jones; Carol, Roland, Melinda and Brian Bowen; Aaron, Sarah and Gordon Bowen; Drew, Dawn, Nathaniel, Spencer and Anna Catherine Brown; Elizabeth and John Rabe; Chere Brown and Evalee Brown. All of his children are faithful believers in Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Eva Brown and his siblings, Preston Brown, Florene Jordon and Benny Brown.
John graduated college in 1959 with a degree in Human Communication and Bible. He went on to earn a Masters Degree in Religious Education in 1961. For 60 years he gave his life to preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.
One of John’s greatest passions was his work with the Bay Area School of preaching, which he co-founded in 1966 and served for 18 years. Along the way, he assisted in the founding of three Christian schools in California.
John authored five books; He was an avid student of the Scriptures and was a constant seeker of truth. He was a gifted teacher and an extraordinary man of peace. He demonstrated his commitment to learning until the last. His love and gifting for music and worship was deeply instilled into all the family and many, over the years, have become beneficiaries of the Brown family’s love for singing to God’s glory.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the Austin Avenue Church of Christ in Brownwood.
