A graveside funeral service with Masonic rites for Clarence Lee “C.L.” Mathews, 92, of Bangs, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Bangs Cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Mathews died Friday, Nov. 4, 2016 in Brownwood.
Clarence Lee Mathews was born on Jan. 16, 1924 in Brown County to Clarence Lary and Effie (Richardson) Mathews. He worked as a commercial harvester for many years. C.L. was a member of Bangs Lodge #926 and the Shriner’s. He also attended the Sunday School gathering at Humphrey Pete’s regularly.
C.L. is survived by two sons, Tony Mathews of Austin and Bryan Thompson and wife Loretta of Early; five grandchildren, Kynzi Atchley and husband Bob, Sydni Rogers and husband Dakota, Wytni Thompson, Tresta Donahoo and Jaryn Pruitt; two great-grandchildren, Adysn and Greysn; a sister, Novelean Plummer; nieces, Alida Shelton, Barbara Correl, Sandra Everett and Jamie Worley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Margaret Edwards and Irene Bishop.
