LUBBOCK — Richard Davies Wise (aka “Doc”) passed away peacefully at home Sunday morning, Jan. 15, 2017. He was born July 12, 1945 in Lancashire County, England to Edward and Marian Wise before moving to the U.S. as a baby. A talented mechanic, Richard was raised in Asherton, and lived most of his life in Carrizo Springs, and later Early. His love of cars and engines was only surpassed by his love for his family.

Richard also made friends wherever he went. He had an inclusive, gracious, and welcoming spirit, and a natural gift for making others feel seen and appreciated. He enjoyed helping people and sharing his mechanical knowledge. His warm smile and his storytelling will be greatly missed. Richard’s tenacity gave him immense strength throughout his life, and as he battled health issues with steadfast positivity. He was a cornerstone for his family who loved him dearly.

Knowing we will see him again in Heaven, he leaves behind his devoted wife, Lois Barber Wise of 40 years; children, Sherrie Wise Thomas, Carrie Mindieta, and Joe Wise; grandchildren Samantha and Taylor Mindieta, and Reagan and Becca Wise; his grand-dogs Maggie, Truman, and Gennie (Thomas), who were also special to him; brother, Miles Wise; his dear cousin, Carmen Romo and numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; as well as countless friends and fellow classic car club members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved grandmother, Leonora Wise ("Nana"); and his dear sister, Janet Jones of Hesperus, Colorado.

A celebration of Richard’s life will be held this spring.
