Icie Ola McKinney Adams Howze, 90, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018 at Sagebrook Rehabilitative Center in Cedar Park.
Icie was born on Sept. 29, 1927 in Belton, the daughter of George and Elsie McKinney. She married the love of her life, Melville Adams Feb. 24, 1945 in Port Chester, New York. Mel whisked her away to the big city where they spent 14 years before returning home to Brownwood. Kitty as she was known by those in New York finally convinced him to move home to Brownwood where she resided for the next 55 years. He preceded her in death in June 1976. She remarried on March 31,1990 to Samuel Howze, in Brownwood. He preceded her in death July 2000.
Icie was a member of the Coggin Avenue Baptist Church and later attended Christ Chapel in Brownwood. She was a faithful member of the Pythian Sisters and loved nothing more than being with her family and friends. Icie had an unshakeable faith until her final breath when she was adamant it was time to go home. She was an incredible mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and will be greatly missed by many. In her earlier years, she worked at Woolworth and JRB Pharmacy and with the BISD. The latter part of her life she was a caregiver for 35 years. She finally decided to retire from the Good Samaritan at the young age of 85 years old.
She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Lisa Adams Stockton and husband Michael; granddaughter, Lindsey Stockton all of Cedar Park; a sister ,Anna Laura Pierce of Austin; step-children, Joanna and husband Mike Williams of California and Steve Howze and wife Doris of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, George McKinney Jr.; sisters, Myrtle Norvell and husband Bill, and Mary Sullivan and husband Roy; and brother-in-law, E. D. Pierce.
The family wishes to thank all of those who cared and love her throughout her life. Visitation will occur from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 23 at Heartland Funeral Home. A “Celebration of Life” will be at 10 a.m. Feb. 24 at Heartland Funeral Home at 303 Early Boulevard in Early, TX 76802, with Pastor Gaylon D. Morris officiating. Her committal service will follow at the Eastlawn Memorial Park.
