Joy Kathy McAlister Powers was born on May 19, 1949 in Hobart, Oklahoma. She grew up in Ozona, and later resided in Comanche, Brownwood, Austin and finally Georgetown. She was a loving mother, sister, and especially grandmother. Her two grandbabies were the light of her life and will forever have a guardian angel Grandma watching over them. Her friends and family often called her a Lady...and that she certainly was. She will be forever missed.
Kathy worked at the Texas Employment Commission in Brownwood for 20 years and retired from the Austin Fire Department after six years.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Vonita McAlister Powers; her father, Victor Verdell McAlister; and her step-father, Ray Powers.
Kathy is survived by her two sisters, Judy Slankard of Brownwood and Janet Scott of Rogers, Arkansas; son, Mickell Powers Moss; son-in-law, Kevin Moss; two grandchildren, Major and Hillary Moss, all of Georgetown; and numerous cousins and nieces.
