Martin James Voorhies, 98, of Brownwood went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018.

Services for Martin will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31 at Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Slaymaker officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park. No set visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.

Martin was born to Andre and Gladys (Pridgen) Voorhies on Aug. 9, 1920, in Houston, Texas. He joined the United States Air Corps in 1942, serving during World War II. After the war, he received his BS in Business Administration from Texas A&I College, Kingsville (now Texas A&M Kingsville) in 1948. Martin met the love of his life, Maurine Lockwood, the two married on Nov. 28, 1957, in Brownwood. They shared 46 years together before her passing in 2003.

Martin and Maurine lived in Corpus Christi for many years, where Martin was the Comptroller for Corpus Christi Savings and Loan Association. Later they returned to Brownwood where he worked as a public accountant until his retirement. He loved boating and traveling in his R.V. with his wife. Martin was a member of First Baptist Church of Brownwood.

Martin is survived by one brother-in-law, Harold Lockwood of Brownwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maurine Lockwood Voorhies; his parents, Andre and Gladys Voorhies; brother, James Voorhies; and brother-in-law, Charles Thomas Lockwood.
