Glenn Brown Whitewood, 79, of Harper, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, Nov. 26, 2018 at home in Early. He fought valiantly but eventually lost his battle with lung cancer.
Brown was born in Kerrville to Fred James Whitewood Senior and Edith Bell Brown on Oct. 7, 1939, the youngest of their four children. He grew up on the Whitewood family ranch in Harper and graduated from Harper High School in 1958. He attended Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas. He married Cathy Hurley on Dec. 21, 1974. He worked as an accountant for many years. His job took him around the world and he and Cathy lived in Singapore for a time.
Brown was an active member of the Harper Lions Club, the First Presbyterian Church of Harper and the Boy Scouts of America. He coached little league baseball and was responsible for bringing the youth soccer league to Harper. He was a devoted husband and family man, very present in the lives and activities of his three children. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren dearly.
Brown was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Madge Whitewood Deeds; and brother, Fred Whitewood Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cathy, of Early; his children, Natalie Whitewood of Early, Justin (Suzanne) Whitewood of Glen Rose, Travis (Julie) Whitewood of Ingram and Trena (Danny) Cullins, of Kerrville; his brother, Ken (Janie) Whitewood of Kerrville; and his grandchildren, Jesse Whitewood, Caden Whitewood, Robin Johns, Jordan Johns, Lanie Whitewood, Ashley Whitewood and Avery Cullins.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 30 at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 at the First Presbyterian Church in Harper. Burial will follow at the Harper Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be brother-in-law, Glenn Clair Hurley Junior; nephew, Fred James Whitewood III; nephew, Todd Whitewood; nephew, Shane Whitewood; cousin, Jack Gabriel; nephew-in law, Neil Culpepper.
