Roland Buddy Zipp, 70, walked into the presence of the Lord on Nov. 28, 2018 in his home in Midlothian.

He was born in New Braunfels to Roland and Lucille Zipp on Dec. 22, 1947. He is brother to Beverly Spillman of San Antonio.

Buddy fell for the love of his life, his bride, and best friend, Jenifer Locker, in Brownwood while hauling hay for his soon to be father in law. They were married on May 30, 1970 in Brownwood.

Buddy graduated from Howard Payne University with a degree in Bible and went on to receive double Master’s degrees in Church Music and Religious Education at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. He spent several years serving the body of Christ as a music minister and youth director in Alvarado and then Dallas.

God led them to Midlothian through a casual invitation from friends to visit Midlothian Bible Church (MBC). MBC would be their last church home, where they attended, raised their family, and served for over 40 years.

After working as an independent contractor, he spent 30 years working hard and providing for his family through his time at Chaparral Steel (Gerdau). His heart was always led by Christ to engage the people around him, whether he was working in the steel mill, construction, sales, or full time ministry. Whatever role he may have been in, he saw it as an opportunity to serve others, encourage them and share his hope in Jesus.

He served as a deacon and then elder at MBC where he led small groups, congregational worship, children’s ministry, young married groups, community groups, and music programs. Anyone that knew him, knew that he put the Lord first, adored his bride and was proud of his children and grandchildren.

He also spent many years as a leader in Bible Study Fellowship where many men and children have been influenced by his example of being a Godly man and loving your family well. He enjoyed sharing stories, providing wise counsel, hunting with his boys, DIY projects, and serving his bride however he could (especially opening her door).

Buddy is survived by the love of his life, Jenifer; son, Paul and daughter-in-law Michele, their children, Isaiah, Trinity, Abigail, Samuel, Philip, Silas, Timothy, and Serenity; his son, Peter and daughter-in-law Johanna, their children, Bryan, Benjamen, and Jacob; his daughter, Hannah and son-in-law Joseph Duce; his sister, Beverly and brother-in-law Emil Spillman; his brothers and sisters-in-law Braswell and Ginger Locker, Dan and Cynthia Locker, and David and Kathy Locker; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1 at Midlothian Bible Church. Pastor Matt Reynolds officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Midlothian Bible Church. May the legacy of love for Christ, His bride the Church, and serving others continue.
