SAN SABA — Wilton Martin, 90, of San Saba, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, March 14, 2019.

Wilton was born on Jan. 17, 1929 in Richland Springs to Buck Martin and Viola Wilton Martin. He served in the United States Army from 1951-1953. He married Betty Carrell on Sept. 5, 1953 in San Saba.

Wilton was known as Granddaddy, Gigi, and Fuzzy to his family and friends. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of San Saba, and farmed and ranched his entire life. He always said that “all it takes to keep a ranch going is a strong back.”

Wilton is survived by his three children: Buck Martin and wife Sheila, Steve Martin and wife Lisa, all of San Saba; daughter Denise Edwards and husband Don of Anchorage, Alaska; grandchildren: Mitchell Martin and wife Anne, Merideth Deeds and husband Billy, Kirby Martin and wife Jayme, Kally Hinnant and husband Kyle; great grandchildren: JC, Georgia, Lily, Emma, James, and Wyatt; brother: Don Wooten and wife Linda; and special caregiver and friend, Linda Chambers.

Wilton was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; parents; and step-dad, Ellis Wooten.
