John Steven Gist, 63, died unexpectedly on June 2, 2019, in Katy.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Paula; his daughter, Lindsay Elmore, son-in-law Corey and grandchildren Cayden and Hadley of New Braunfels; his mother, Shirley Gist of Katy; brother, Lanny Gist and fiancé Maryanne of Arlington; sister-in-law, Pam Gist of Cleburne; and numerous other family member and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Gist; and brother, Brent Gist.
Steve was born on May 17, 1956 in Brownwood to parents John and Shirley Gist. He graduated from Taylor High School and continued his education at Blinn Junior College and The University of Texas. He married Paula on June 7, 1980 in Houston and the couple had one daughter together, Lindsay, that they raised in Katy where they have lived for 27 years.
He was promoted to PiPi in 2014 and again in 2016 as he welcomed Cayden and Hadley. Steve was a great family man and a loving husband, father and PiPi.
Steve has been a key member of Cangelosi for over 34 years. He enjoyed watching sports, lake time, The University of Texas and vacationing with friends. His family and friends will always remember him as a loving and supportive person.
A viewing is scheduled for Thursday, June 6 at Schmidt Funeral Home on Grand Parkway from 5 to 8 p.m. His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 7 at Schmidt Funeral Home as well with a graveside service to follow at Katy Magnolia Cemetery.
