Barbara Virginia Godby-Smith, a long time resident of Brownwood, passed away on July 27, 2019 at San Angelo Community Hospital in San Angelo after several months' illness. A private graveside memorial will be held at a later date in Brownwood.
    She was born in Caldwell to John Godby and Edna Mennike-Godby on Oct. 21 1931. She worked at Janie Clements Industries in Brownwood and looked forward to seeing all her co-workers each week and enjoyed holiday activities, parties, and the dances they had. She also had many friends in her community who meant a lot to her.
    Bobbie is survived by her sister, Rose Springs of Houston; and many nephews and nieces and their families.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Smith of Brownwood; parents, John Godby and Edna Godby; brother, John W. Godby and wife Betty Godby of Houston; sisters, Lavelle Parker and husband Russ Parker of Houston, Gloria Stultz and husband Sid Stultz of Dallas; niece, Sandy Springs-Cox and husband Greg Cox of Bakersfield, California; and nephew, Russell Springs of Gonzales.
    Her family wishes to convey their appreciation to all the agencies and employees who assisted her in living a happy life in Brownwood (Central Texas MHMR, HCS Services, and Genesis Area Development).  They are also grateful for the good care given to her and the kindness to her and her family by Brownwood Nursing and Rehabilitation and Brownwood Regional Hospital.
