Shelia Sams, of Lubbock and formerly of Brownwood, passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2019 in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 at Little Zion Baptist Church located at 601 Cordell St. with the Rev. Jesse Turner officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13 at the Brownwood Funeral Home Chapel. Services entrusted to Brownwood Funeral Home.
Shelia was born Nov. 18, 1963 in Galveston to Georgia Mae Sams and Ciscero Gaines. Shelia moved to Brownwood at an early age and would become a life long resident of Brownwood. Shelia received her primary education from Brownwood schools. Soon after high school she started a career in health care. She cared for many people over the years as a CNA and she loved what she did. Her infectious smile would light up the room and she loved to dance and sing.
Shelia was preceded in death by parents, Georgia Mae Sams and Cescero Gaines.
Left to cherish her memories are sons: Jessie Sams and wife Michele of Lubbock, and Anthony DeGrate of Brownwood; long-time companion of 24 years, Robert Perot of Brownwood; three grandchildren, Arthur Tomkins, Alexis Tompkins, and Jaelyn Sams; two great-grandchildren, EllaRae Jones, and Ava Jones; sister, Nancy Johnson of Brownwood; and a host of extended family and many friends.
