Sherry Lavern Gottfried Rutledge, 52, of May, Texas, went to be with Jesus on Monday, May 28.

She passed away at the Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

She was born May 28, 1954, in Ennis, Texas, the daughter of Robert and JoAnn Goodman Gray. They moved to Abilene where she attended schools and later in Lincoln, Neb.

She married Kenny Gottfried in Oklahoma in 1981 and he preceded her in death in June of 1982. She married Jack Rutledge in Comanche on Aug. 2, 1993. She worked as a teacherís aide for the May Independent School District for 18 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of May.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Rutledge of May; her mother, JoAnn Gray of Burnet; two daughters, Amie Gray of Burnet and Kendra Gottfried of May; a brother, Robert Jesse Gray and his wife Amy of Burnet; four grandsons; a granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, her father, and two stepsons, Andy and Steven Rutledge.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church of May with Brother David Pate and Brother Dennis Hester officiating. Burial will follow in the Rising Star Cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Early.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
