Charles Wayne Drew Jr., age 54, of Comanche died Friday morning, Aug. 15, 2008, at a local residence following a sudden illness.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel in Comanche with the Rev. Benny M. Allcorn officiating.

His body was cremated under the direction of Heartland Funeral and Cremation Services.

He was born March 8, 1954, in Brownwood, the son of Charlie Wayne Drew Sr. and Violet Matlock Drew.

He grew up in the Brownwood area. As a young boy, he had a strong interest in music and started playing drums for several bands. He played with Dell McBride for several years and even performed on the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. He also worked as a butcher for several grocery stores until an accident left him disabled.

He had lived in Comanche for the past several years, moving there from Brownwood.

He is survived by his daughter, Jeannie Grogan and her husband Brian of Arlington and his grandson, Ian Grogan of Arlington. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by two sisters.
