Funeral services for Doris Holamon, age 91, of Zephyr, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Brownwood with Chaplain Dick Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Zephyr Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday evening at Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

She passed away Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at a local nursing home in Brownwood. Doris was born on Nov. 3, 1920, in Brown County, Texas to Ruben and Bessie Mae (Tongate) Starkey.

She married Leland Frank Holamon in June 1940; they spent 37 years together before his passing in 1977. Doris enjoyed cooking, gardening, yard work, and loved to mow the yard, she was a member of First Baptist Church in Zephyr, and member of retired rail hands. Doris loved to travel, and she was an original backer of the first Zephyr rodeo, and also bought the very first snow cone machine for the rodeo. She worked for the Zephyr ISD lunchroom and drove the school bus for many years, and she also worked at B&G Grocery Store, and Kirkey Greenhouse.

She is survived by four children, Jimmy Holamon and wife Carol of Brownwood, Joan Gist and husband Richard of Early, Travis Holamon and wife Faynell of Brownwood, and Larry Holamon of Zephyr; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters; three brothers-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents; Ruben and Bessie, her husband; Leland, and a daughter-in-law; Wanda Holamon; also one sister Mary Tatum; and one brother, Travis Starkey.
