BENBROOK ó Funeral services for Bertha Bernice Cantwell, 84, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, at West Worth Church of Christ. Interment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today, in Greenwood Funeral Home.

Bernice Cantwell passed away Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, in Fort Worth. Bernice Cantwell was born Nov. 28, 1924, in Comanche, to James and Bertha Rushing. On Aug. 7, 1942, after a six-month courtship she was married to Towel Cantwell. They were separated by his death on their 60th wedding anniversary. She was baptized into the Lordís church at the age of 13 and was a faithful member for more than 70 years. Bernice was a devoted and loving wife, mother and mama-ma. She lived her life staying strong in difficult times and was always thankful for blessings that came her way. Her family was her most precious asset, not silver or gold. She served others with humility and love not wanting attention on herself. Bernice was a beautiful quilter, wonderful cook and loved nurturing her flowers and plants. The legacy of her life will live on through her family and all those who dearly loved her. Her absence will leave a void in the lives of her family and friends.

Survivors include her son, Gene Cantwell and wife Norma; daughter, Bella Scanner; grandson, Slade Scanner and wife, Lisa; granddaughter, Shelley Moore and husband, Matthew; great-grandsons, Stratton Scanner and wife, Diana, Charlie Moore, Jake Moore, Clayton Moore and Mason Scanner; great-granddaughters, Abigail Moore and Emerson Scanner; son-in-law, Daniel Palfrey; sisters, Eloise May, Pearl Bubo and her husband Cullen, Imam Jean Turner and Patrice Clark; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Bertha Rushing; husband, Towel L. Cantwell; brother, Doyle Rushing; and daughter, Deborah D. Palfrey.
