Josephine Rhodes, 69, of Cross Plains, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007, at a local nursing home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, at Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dick Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Zephyr Cemetery.

Josephine Stovall was born Jan. 5, 1938, in Coleman, the daughter of Melvin and Vernice Murphree Stovall. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in business and English from Howard Payne University. She taught school for 22 years, 17 of those at Cross Plains. Josephine was a member of First Baptist Church of Cross Plains.

Survivors include one son, Alan Rhodes and wife, Patricia, of Brownwood; daughter, Vernette Whatley and husband, Ray, of Azle; brother, Gary Stovall and wife, Shirley, of Early; sisters, Ima Gene Hurst and husband, Don, of Abilene, Shirley Sharp and husband, Albert, of Bangs, Judy Eoff and husband, Cliff, of Blanket, Meldina Mitchell and husband, Larry, of Early, and Melvina Floyd of San Angelo; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
