COMANCHE — Graveside service for James Gunter, 85, of Gustine will be at 2 p.m. today at Evergreen Cemetery in Comanche County with Comanche Funeral Home in charge of arrangements and Bro. Dale Cartwright officiating. A lunch will be held at noon today at the First Baptist Church in Gustine.
He died Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at his residence in Gustine.
He was born on Dec. 18, 1922 in San Saba, Texas, to Guy Gunter Sr. and Esther (Hibbler) Gunter. James Gunter was self employed as a livestock and poultry farmer. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Quarter Master 3rd Class. On March 17, 1949, he was married to Billie Merle Allen in Comanche. She preceded him in death on July 20, 2003.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Elaine Gunter, of Gustine; son and daughter-in-law, Pat and Ruby Gunter, of Gustine; daughter, Cathy Shaw, of Waco; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Guy Gunter Jr. and P.D. Gunter.
