CROSS PLAINS — Uva M. Hellums Jones, age 85, of Cross Plains, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 20, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel in Cross Plains with Clint Burns officiating. Burial will follow in the Cottonwood Cemetery in Callahan County.
She was born Jan. 17, 1922, to Ben P. and Beatrice Archer Hellums in Navarro County, Texas. She married Jack Jones on Jan. 11, 1947, in Rising Star. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Cottonwood. She lived in the area for 16 years. Before living in Cross Plains, she had lived in Farmington, N.M.; Bayfield, Colo.; and Diboll, Texas.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Jones of Cross Plains; son, Randy Jones of Pomeroy, Wash.; daughter, Effie B. Dawkins and her husband Don of Brownwood; three sisters, Pauline Parsons of Baird, LaFond Ghormley of Deer Park, and Olena Ezzell of Rising Star; brother-in-law, Carter Jones and his wife Cynthia of Dublin; three sisters-in-law, Betty Godfrey and Shirley Mangum, both of Odessa, and Edith Jones of Wink; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Maurice Martin, Cassie Ester Allen and Georgia Walker; and brother, Nathan Hellums.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
