SAN ANGELO ó Born Aug. 6, 1919, Sybil Lee Benson went with her wonderful Lord and Heavenly Father on Oct. 28, 2007. There, she joined her dear ones who have gone before; her husband Norman Lloyd Benson with whom she enjoyed 55 years; her parents, Bill and Tressie Allen; her sister, Wilma Courtney; her brothers Dale Ray, Monroe and David Allen, and her son, Bill Benson.
She is survived by her children; Janelle Coleman and husband, Jim, of Knoxville, Tenn.; Lavelle Harmon and husband, Jerrel of San Angelo, and Norma Hopkins of Euless, Texas; her 13 grandchildren, Clint Harmon and wife, Sharon of Midland; Dana Woodfin and husband, Skip of Honolulu, Hawaii; Brint Harmon and wife, Robin of San Angelo; John Wilkerson and wife, Linda of Long Beach, Calif.; Matt Wilkerson and wife, Jeri Lynn of Medicine Lodge, Ky.; Mark Wilkerson and wife, Lori of Rantoul, Ill.; Jana Lee and husband, Chris of Rustenburg, South Africa; Luke Wilkerson and wife, Jana of Monroe, Ga; Mary Mancia and husband, Alex of Long Beach, Calif.; Zane Yeater and husband, Tommy of Big Spring; Ross Benson and wife, Sheri of Mertzon; Zach Hopkins and wife, Sherry of Cedar Hill and Paige Hopkins of Euless; and her 38 great-grandchildren. Also surviving her are her siblings; Darla Collier of Brownwood; Gary Allen and his wife, June of Desota; her sisters-in-law, JoAnn Allen of San Angelo, Betty Benson of Crowley, Texas, and Rosalie Galpin of Long Beach, Calif.; her daughter-in-law, Mitzi Norton of San Angelo, and a whole host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sybil was much loved and was a delight to be around. She was known for her wit and her ability to remember the punch line to all of her jokes. She loved playing domino games with her friends. Her closest friends were Barbara Cowley, knowing Sybil for 50 years, and Pauline Anderson for 25 years. Sybil had a servantís heart and volunteered at RSVP for 25 years.
With the exception of illnesses, Sybil never missed a church service at Harvest Baptist Church where she was a charter member for 57 years. She loved the Lord and was faithful to serve Him.
Her memorial service will be Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Johnsonís Funeral Home with burial following in Lawnhaven Memorial Garden. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Johnsonís Funeral Home.
Memorials can be made to Harvest Baptist Church Building Fund at 2021 Austin St., to Meals on Wheels or Vista Care in San Angelo.
Mother, Mother Dear, Grandmother, Sis, Aunt Sib, we love you dearly and will miss you greatly.
