LUBBOCK — Don Sholer, 85, formerly of Lubbock, entered heaven on May 3, 2007. He was born Nov. 21, 1921, in Fort Smith, Ark. He enjoyed his position as a cotton buyer for over 50 years before retiring due to his health.
Don was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen Sholer, parents William and Myrtle Sholer, and brothers Howard, Jack and Bill Sholer. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Marguarette “Marge” Sholer; son, Terry Sholer and daughter-in-law Maryann Sholer; daughter, Brenda Bumpas; granddaughters, Alana Lowrance, Stephanie Trevino and Shannon Bumpas; great-grandchildren, Keenan Lowrance and Alexis Fuentes; sisters, Juanita Collins and Patricia Corley’ and many nieces and nephews, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws.
Among those who knew and loved him as a dad, and called him Papa, were Tina Trevino, Warren Sandner and Rhonda Washington.
Don was a World War II veteran, a life member of VFW Post 2466, Elks Lodge No. 1348 and New Testament Baptist Church.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at Sanders Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. Richard Craven. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Sanders Funeral Home.
