FORT WORTH — Geneva Maxcey McGee, 78, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 14, 2007, after a long and valiant battle with lung cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood Chapel with Cyndy Twedell officiating. Burial will take place in Greenwood Memorial Park.

Neva’s life journey began Nov. 6, 1928, in Richland Springs as the daughter of C.A. Maxcey, Kate Adams Maxcey and stepmother, Mary Lee Maxcey. After graduation from Richland Springs High School, where she served as both drum major and cheerleader, she moved to Fort Worth to attend Texas Christian University, completing her degree in elementary education.

As a music and physical education teacher at Castleberry Elementary for over 25 years, she brought joy and smiles to many young students who still remember fondly how she touched their lives. During her retirement she enjoyed gardening, gourmet cooking, reading, traveling and especially time spent with her grandchildren.

Neva met each of life’s challenges with determination and confidence. As a loving mother, grandmother, sister and devoted Christian, she will always remain in the hearts of those she loved and those who loved her. Her unending kindness, unwavering love and devotion to her family will always remain her lifelong gift for which we will forever be grateful.

Family members wish to express their sincere gratitude to the many caregivers who provided comfort and care to our “Ganny” during the past months.

Survivors include her loving daughters, Melody Merritt and husband Wayne, Emily Kite and husband Philip, and Robin Espy and father of R.C., Tom Espy; grandchildren, Robert Espy, Chandler Merritt, Kendall Merritt, Maxcey Kite and Samuel Kite; her loving sister and best friend, Jo Nell Huntington; many nieces, nephews and friends; and special neighbor, Jim.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or a favorite charity.
