Graveside services for Roland H. Nichols will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2010, in the Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early Texas. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 2, 2010 at the Heartland Funeral Home in Early, Texas.

    Mr. Nichols passed away Wednesday at his home in Early, Texas.  He was born  Aug. 17, 1928 to Vernon and Inez Deavers Nichols in Winchell, Texas.

    Roland was married to Mary Nelms on May 23, 1949, in Brownwood, Texas. He worked for Santa Fe Railroad as a brakeman and a conductor for 41 years.  He served his country in the United States Air Force for a number of years. Roland was a lifetime member of the Brownwood VFW and a member of the Cattlemen’s Association. He was also a member of the Elks Club.

    Roland is survived by his wife Mary Nelms Nichols of Early, Texas, three daughters Patsy and husband Bill Biggs of Temple, Texas, Paula Young and fiance Jess Kennedy of Early, Texas, and Susan Nix of Whitney, Texas. He is also survived by his two sons Larry and wife Kay Nichols of Mountain Home, Texas, and Stephen Nichols and fiance Jana Quick of Brownwood, Texas. Roland is survived by 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, one brother Wayne Nichols of Brownwood and one sister Jean and husband Jim Perkins of Lake Brownwood, Texas.

    He was preceded in death by a daughter Donna Lockett, his parents, one brother and two sisters.
