Lillian Burgess Hetzel died in Springhill, Tenn., Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009. She was born in Winchester, England, Jan. 31, 1922. She was married to E.V. “Jack” Hetzel in England while she was serving with the Royal Air Force, and he was in the U.S. Army Air Corps in July 1944. They celebrated 65 years of marriage.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Hetzel; a son, Rodney David Hetzel; and a daughter, Jacqulaine Hubbell. Also surviving are two brothers, Ronald and Sidney Burgess of England. She was the proud grandmother of four and great-grandmother to nine. She also leaves behind her family of choice, brother-in-law, Victor and wife Marge, Bill and wife Marge, Zane and wife Diane, Richard and wife Sharlene; sister-in-law, Evylyn and husband Ron Brooks; plus nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Roger; her mother and father; and a brother, Stanley Burgess.

During her 65 years of marriage to Jack, she served as a career soldier’s wife, and following his retirement from the Army, she served as his partner in ministry as they were appointed missionaries by the Assembly of God Church. In that capacity she traveled to many places around the world. Of her many accomplishments in life, one that made her proud was becoming a U.S. citizen. She often remarked that she never dreamed of coming to Texas but was glad she got here as quickly as she did. She spent many years in nursing and as a certified nursing home administrator.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, in Greenleaf Cemetery. Her brother-in-law, Richard Hetzel will officiate.
