Marvin Edward “Ed” Covey, 74, of Early died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007, at a local nursing home with family by his side.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Troy King and George Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow at Oakview Cemetery in Mullin, Texas. Heartland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ed Covey was born July 15, 1933, in San Saba, Texas, the son of John and Gracie Cox Covey. He married Bonnie Hughitt on July 26, 1952, in Meridian, Texas. Ed was a devoted husband, and grandfather. He bought and sold precious metals, was a fisherman, a checker champion, the best storyteller ever and a musician. He was a minister of his own Pentecostal Church and had numerous foster children. Ed and his wife were members of Trinity Chapel Church and had lived in Early the past eight years, moving here from Goldthwaite.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Covey of Early; sons, Weldon Humphries and wife, Mozell, of Cranfills Gap, Charles Covey of Belton and James Covey and wife, Deana, of Roscoe; daughters, Patricia Storey and husband, Tommy, of Early and Pamela Stinnett and husband, Ricky, of Round Rock; sisters, Vinnie Schurege and husband, Carl, of Sweeney and Josephine Hicks and husband, Roland, of Clifton; 22 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Lloyd, Johnny, Charley and Roy Covey; and a sister, Ruby Pierce.
