ODESSA — E. E. “Gene” Hensley, age 87, passed away Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007, at Manor Park in Midland.

He was born on April 24, 1920, in Skiatook, Okla., to Adam H. and Mary Nevada (Molder) Hensley. He spent his early years in Oklahoma and East Texas, and graduated from Kilgore High School. He came to Odessa in 1938 to work for SunRay DX Oil Co. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II and was stationed at Midland Air Field where he met Lavois Rogers. They were married on Aug. 14, 1942, in Seminole, Texas, and would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

He started his career in petroleum marketing as a Humble dealer in 1946. In 1961 was hired by El Paso Products Company as their District Sales manager for West Texas. Wanting to own his own business, he became an independent fuel marketer in 1965 and in 1971 he became associated with Gulf Oil Corporation as their distributor. It was at that time that he founded E. E. Hensley & Son, Inc., with his son Larry. He retired to Lake Brownwood in 1988 and spent many enjoyable years there.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Orville, Hubert and Johnny, sisters, Opal and Beatrice.

He is survived by his wife, Lavois, son, Larry and wife, Jan, granddaughter, Melissa Hensley Duncan and her husband Clint, great-granddaughter, Kendall Duncan, sister, Lucille McClead of Brownwood, and several nieces and nephews.

Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors, 4635 Oakwood Dr, Odessa, Texas.

There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007, at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland. A Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at First Baptist Church in Odessa, with the Rev. Glenn W. Pipes officiating.

The family requests that memorials may be made to Home Hospice in Midland or First Baptist Church, Television Ministry in Odessa.
