Funeral services for Theda Lucile Gilger, 98, of Brownwood, will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Brownwood with Dr. Rick Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Richland Springs Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
The family received friends at the funeral home from 7 until 8 p.m. Wednesday.
She passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2007, in a San Saba nursing facility.
Lucile was born in Richland Springs to J.O. and Annie Elizabeth Moore on July 29, 1908. She graduated from Richland Springs High School and attended Howard Payne University, where she met L.L. “Toots” Gilger, whom she married on May 24, 1931. He preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 1996. Lucile was a successful rancher, master gardener and artist.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Charles, Eugene, Harvey, Arthur and Milton; and two sisters, Laura Annie and Vivian.
Lucile is survived by her children, Wynne Lou Gilger Ferguson and her husband Wayne of Richland Springs, David Lawrence Gilger and wife Barbara of San Saba, and John Robert Gilger and wife Susan of Brownwood; seven grandchildren, Amy Taylor, Robert Ware and his wife Kimberly Bitting, Paul Ware and his wife Izelda, Troy Gilger, Kelly Reavis and her husband John, Ross Gilger and his wife Courtney, and Mathew Gilger and his wife Nicole; seven great-grandchildren, Morgan Gilger, Kolby Reavis, Johna Reavis, Ashton Taylor, Addison Taylor, Jacklyn Ware, and Carter Ware; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dear sister, Wynne Mae Brown of Tyler. They were best friends and travel companions.
