Charolette Ann Smith, 65, of La Porte passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, in Baytown.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel in Early with the Rev. Eddie Ailshie officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Heartland Funeral Home.

Charolette Ann was born Aug. 29, 1942, in Denton, to Walter Ray Blair and Verla (Bernice) Blair. She graduated from Howard Payne University in 1963 with a B.A. in Elementary Education and received a Master’s Degree from Howard Payne University in 1968. She married Williams Alfred “Bill” Smith in Valley View on Aug. 25, 1962.

Mrs. Smith taught four years a a sixth grade teacher in May, and 33 years as a sixth grade teacher and elementary school librarian in La Porte. She retired from the La Porte ISD in 1996. Charolette was a member of Fairmont Parkway Baptist Church of La Porte and taught second grade Sunday school class for many years. She was also a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association and Delta Kappa Gamma.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Bill Smith of La Porte; a son, William James “B.J.” Smith and wife Virginia, of Alvin; brothers, Walter Ray Blair and wife Sylvia, of Haltom, David Blair and wife Donna, of Sherman, and Norman Mills, Jr. and wife Debbie, of Denton. She is also survived by nieces and nephews; Michael Blair, Brittany Bell, Suzanne Blair, Jennifer Mills, Carley Mills, Brain Mills, and Whitney Mills; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Maxine Hine of Early.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, Norman Mills, and her brother-in-law, Jimmy Smith.
