Matthew Ryan Goodwin
Matthew Ryan Goodwin left his earthly body and joined his heavenly body on June 4th, 2021. His Dad Barton Goodwin, both sets of grandparents, Henry & Allie Goodwin, Joe & Dorothy Wallace, Uncles Warren Wallace, Henry Goodwin, Aubrey Goodwin, and James Goodwin all welcomed Matt with hugs.
Matt was born May 6th, 1974 to Barton & Jo Ann Goodwin of Early Texas. Matt accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at Early First Baptist Church. Matt was active in RA and several other camps. Matt won first place in the Pinewood Derby event in 1982 and still has the trophy and red ribbon as mementos. Matt participated in scripture learning, and he still had his red bible covered with stickers. He along with Walter Knight and others from Church took a mission trip to Mexico. Matt came home amazed that they had dirt floors with no electricity in their homes. Needless to say, Matt came home with a new perspective and attitude.
Matt loved animals and was always bringing home strays. Matt had a little white puppy follow him home that he named Casper, after Casper the Ghost. Casper followed Matt everywhere.
Matt loved the Guitar and he played with several people around North Texas. Matt had collected 20 guitars at one time.
Matt had a love for growing plants. He had sent me a picture of a beautiful Christmas Cacti on his phone. He grew big roses of all colors, but his prized plant was an ivy that his grandma Dorothy gave him when he was in the hospital. Mom told him he had Grandma Ruth's "Green thumb". Unfortunately, during the terrible freeze in February 2021, he lost several of his plants. The year 2020 was devasting for Matt and his health issues.
Matt is survived by his Mother Jo Ann Goodwin of Early, three brothers, Jeff & wife Debra Goodwin of Southlake TX, Mark Goodwin of Early TX, and Michael & wife Marcie of Sherman TX, 8 nieces and nephews (Austin, Ariel, Kailey, Sarah, Natalie, Taylor, Jordan, and Nathan) along with his forever side kick, Smokey G, a pit bull mix.
Displayed on Matt's social media cover page was this quote, "Walk with me Father until my Journey is through, then by God's Grace bring me home to you."
Graveside Services for Matthew Goodwin were held on June 17, 2021 at 10:30 am at Eastlawn Memorial in Early, TX.
