Mary Elizabeth Briggs of Giddings died Texas Saturday, June 20, 2020. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the United Christian and Presbyterian Church, 1609 S. Commercial, Coleman, with the service beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2020 with the Rev. Tracy Baker officiating. Private family interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman. Those attending are asked to wear a mask. If you do not have a mask, there will be a limited number available at the door of the sanctuary.
She was born to Roamie Babbitt and Merle Threadgill Babbitt Welch on Dec. 10, 1929 in Coleman, Texas, where she graduated from Coleman High School. She married Jay W. Briggs in 1959 in Hobbs, New Mexico and he preceded her in death in 2015. She was a member of the United Christian and Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Smith of Schulenburg, Texas and Karen Duke of Lake Brownwood; four grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; and two great-great granddaughters.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, parents, stepfather, brother and sister.
