Jane Black Turman Lacey

May 2, 1932 – October 25, 2020

Jane lived a full 88 years and had a blessed life with family and friends and looked forward to her life to come with her Lord and Savior Jesus.

Jane was born in Mills County Texas to C.H. Black II and Hazel Tyson Black May 2nd 1932. She was the first of three children born. She went to school at Lometa, Texas and graduated in 1949. She then attended Howard Payne University and graduated in 1952. Later she obtained her master’s degree at the University of Texas, Austin. She married James Aubrey Turman in 1952 and taught in public schools and raised 2 sons, Tom and Dick in Austin, Texas. 

In Austin she enjoyed her time as an active member of the State Official’s Lady Club and was active at her church (University Avenue Church of Christ). She and her family moved to Abilene in 1976 as her husband Jack had taken a job working with ACU. Jane also taught in the public schools of Abilene. After the death of her husband in 1985, Jane eventually met up with her college sweetheart Leo Lacey Jr. They were soon married and moved to a small ranch near Goldthwaite, Texas where she grew up. They retired there and were active members of Goldthwaite Baptist Church and they were also active Alumni supporters of Howard Payne University.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents C.H. and Hazel Black, and by her first husband James A. Turman. She is survived by her husband Leo Lacey Jr and 2 younger brothers Huntis and Layton Black (wife Thresa) of the Goldthwaite area, and her 2 sons Tom (son Austin) and Dick Turman (wife Kim and their children Lauren and Colt), Debbie Owens (Leo’s daughter) and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Jane’s life will be held at First Baptist Church in Goldthwaite, Texas on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 1:00 pm.
