To the editor:

In response to Mr. James Austin:

Sir, since when does who your parents are determine the rest of your life? First of all, Barack Obamaís dad left him when he was 2 years old, correct me if Iím wrong. If his grandparents were atheist, who taught him to be Muslim?

The last time I read my Bible, it said Moses was put into a river and was found by rich people and raised, not as a believer in God, but in Pharaohís house. Oh, and by the way, he was a murderer, but this didnít keep him from leading the multitude out of Egypt. Sir, your beginning does not determine your end (Genesis).

Joseph was, as you would call him, a jailbird, but he saved a nation (Genesis). David did many bad things, but God said he was a man after his own heart (Kings).

Just remember how Haman put Mordecai down because of his perception of him and built that gallows for him. Well, Hamanís gallows was used on himself. (the book of Esther).

Paul was a conservative and killed many Christians. He also was a murderer until he saw the light and he then wanted everyone to be saved, and his writings still lead people to being saved.

Jesus himself came down through the lineage of a prostitute and was also perceived as a jailbird. So be careful who you think doesnít come up to your standards. None of the above would meet the criteria for being president of the U.S.A. but they loved God, and met his standards.

We all should vote our conscience and pray that God puts the right person in office, regardless of how we feel about them. Letís stop tearing people down because of what we read or what weíve heard. After all, the Bible says the heart of the king is in my hand: I will turn it whichever way I want.

You also ask what the writerís definition of a Christian is. It doesnít matter what the writerís definition is, nor your definition, nor mine as well. Itís what Romans 10:9 and John 3:16 say.

May God bless you, Mr. Austin.
