When will we ever learn?
King Solomon is the richest man who has ever lived on this earth. When God asked Solomon what he wanted, Solomon prayed for a wise and understanding heart to rule the people God had set under him. This unselfish request by Solomon pleased God so much that God told Solomon he was also going to give him unparalleled wealth.
Nevertheless, what did Solomon write about wealth in his informative book Proverbs? He stated, “A miserly man hastens after wealth and does not know that want will come upon him.” He also said, “He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.” Another interesting thing God said through Solomon is “He who closes his ear to the cry of the poor will himself cry out and not be heard.” He further added, “Do not toil to acquire wealth; be wise enough to desist. When your eyes light upon it, it is gone for suddenly it takes to itself wings, flying like an eagle toward heaven.” Remember the 1939 Depression and Enron.
Therefore, the next time we have an opportunity to help a poor needy person, let’s remember these things and that the reward for humility and fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life.
