Itís been a busy week at the Coliseum Annex, where early voting for Brown County in the Nov. 4 general election opened Monday. The polls here are open daily ó yes, even this afternoon ó from Oct. 20-31, taking away practically every excuse a registered voter might think of to stay away.

The heavy turnout is a trend thatís being seen across the state as voters take quite seriously the decisions they are being asked to make this year. While voters who have already voted early may have been surprised that lines had formed and that waiting a few minutes was required, their decision to vote now ó instead of waiting until election day ó will only speed the process on Nov. 4.

Every voter who votes early will be one less person standing in a line somewhere on election day.

With early voting also being conducted for the entire county at one location ó the Coliseum Annex in Brownwood ó thereís no guessing about where the correct voting box is going to be. For voters who canít get into town very often, the election day locations scattered throughout the county will be more convenient.

Convenience is the goal here, after all. If you canít make it to the polls between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays, they were open Saturday and will be again from noon to 5 p.m. today. On Thursday and Friday this week, the hours will be extended from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

So, whatís your excuse now?
