For generations, “home for Christmas” is where people have longed to be. But for countless men and women serving in the U.S. armed forces, that cannot be this year – and in many other years. Instead, they will be on duty performing the jobs they volunteered to do, securing the nation for all of the rest of us.
For several years, Brownwood area residents have found it appropriate to remember those sacrifices in a public ceremony arranged by the Military and Family Support Group and local ministers. This year’s event will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Stuart and Margaret Coleman Plaza, 600 Depot. Those who would like to be a part of the community choir are asked to arrive at the depot plaza at 5:15 p.m.
Prayers will be offered for service men and women – both those at home and away on duty – along with their families, those affected by the horrors of war. Prayers will also be offered for the world peace that they all seek to achieve. Our participation is a fitting Christmas gift to them.
