Itís a season for cultural events in Brown County, with the ninth annual Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit opening Feb. 4 for a two-week run. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, preparations are under way for a variety of artistic endeavors at area schools. The Community Concert Band, which resumed rehearsals last week, makes sure musicians at all stages of accomplishment are not left out.

The volunteer organization, directed by Howard Payne University Director of Bands Corey Ash, has performed a public concert for several years. Anyone with an interest, an ability and the time to practice on Monday evenings is welcomed. The invitation extends to high school students who are looking for some additional opportunities to perform to older musicians who still have the desire to play, according to Ash.

The rehearsals will lead to a concert to be scheduled during the late spring. Ash, along with some guest conductors, will conduct the band.

Ash plans to offer a variety of band literature for the performers to play, and the Community Band experience has proven to be an enjoyable one for musicians who participate as well as members of the audience when the spring concert is offered.

The next rehearsal will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the HPU Davidson Music Complex. Band members are waiting for you and your instrument to arrive. Meanwhile, the community is waiting for the spring concert to unfold.
