KERRVILLE — The Brownwood Lady Lions split their first two games at the Kerrville Tivy soccer tournament Friday, posting a 3-0 shutout over San Angelo Lake View before falling to tournament host Tivy, 1-0.

In the win over Lake View, Brownwood struck first with 19 minutes left in the first half as Tristan Escamilla scored with an assist from Ashley Strong. Just 1:45 later Jaycee Lenz found the net unassisted, and the Lady Lions owned a 2-0 halftime advantage.

The Lady Lions capped the scoring with 10:30 left in the contest as Miranda Guerrero became the third Brownwood player to record a goal.

In the nightcap against Tivy, Brownwood surrendered the lone goal with 20:30 left in regulation on a one penalty kick.

Brownwood (5-2-1) will resume tournament action today against Fredericksburg at 10 a.m. and LaVernia at 2 p.m.


Lions tally first victory

followed by road loss


The Brownwood Lions soccer team earned its first victory of the season Thursday, notching a 2-0 win over Alvarado.

Simeon Bates recorded the first goal for the Lions off a deflection, then assisted Aaron Jimenez with a cross the set up a header and the final goal with three minutes left.

The Lions then took to the road Friday where they suffered a 3-0 loss to Paris.

Brownwood (1-4-1) will be back in action at 11 a.m. today at Gainesville.
