AUSTIN — The Howard Payne Lady Jackets pushed their win streak to five games and remained atop the American Southwest Conference West Division standings with a 60-51 road victory over the Concordia Lady Tornados Saturday.

The Lady Jackets (10-8, 5-3) limited Concordia (8-8, 1-6) to 13 percent (4 of 31) shooting in the first half while racing out to a 30-19 halftime advantage. Howard Payne’s lead was trimmed three points on three occasions in the fourth period, but a late 11-3 spurt put the finishing touches on the Lady Jackets’ victory.

Danyel Bradley led Howard Payne with 14 points trailed by 12 from Sarahi Castillo, 10 from Micah Cisneroz, seven from Jessica Leaks, six from Presley McKethan, four from Ashley Caldwell — who recorded seven blocks for the second game in a row — three from Caprica Brooks, and two points each from Valarie Matlock and Erionna Brown.

The Lady Jackets knocked down 34 percent (21 of 62) of their shots, 29 percent (4 of 14) of their three-pointers and 64 percent (14 of 22) of their free throws. Howard Payne also owned a 53-50 edge in rebounds.

Concordia shot just 22 percent (15 of 67) overall and did not convert a three-pointer in 10 attempts. But the Lady Tornados stayed within striking distance by burying 21 of 32 free throws (66 percent) and forcing 16 HPU turnovers.

Jaela Dejean paced Concordia with 11 points trailed by Isis Johnson with 10, Mercedes Ellison with nine, Brenisha Payne with eight, Emily Cullers and Da’Quayia Terry with four each, Alexis Copeland and Ariana Marks with two apiece and Camille Horman with one point.

Howard Payne will attempt to stretch its win streak to six games when it hosts Louisiana College (6-8, 4-3) — which fell Saturday to UT-Dallas, 62-61 — at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
