Roberts wins tournament by 19 strokes, Hill places third, Garcia comes in fifth
GLEN ROSE — Behind the first, third and fifth best individual scores of the tournament, the Brownwood Lady Lions cruised to the team championship at the Iredell Invitational Monday at Squaw Valley Golf Course.
Three-time regional qualifier and two-time state qualifier Sydney Roberts led the charge with a round of 74, a 19-stroke advantage over tournament runner-up Lauren Hennis (93) from Rio Vista. Brownwood's Mallory Hill came in third with a round of 94, while Mallory Garcia placed fifth with a 100.
Also competing for the Lady Lions — who carded a 401 composite score — were Dalainy Garza with a 133 and Maddison Murray with a 144.
Brownwood finished 35 shots better than second-place Santo (436) while Rio Vista (463) was third overall.
Next up for the Lady Lions is the first round of the 36-hole District 6-4A girls golf tournament, scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday at the Brownwood Country Club. The second round will take place March 28 at the Graham Country Club.
