BANGS — The Bangs Lady Dragons put a stranglehold on the District 7-3A softball lead, defeating the Early Lady Horns, 7-1, in their final game of the first half of league play Friday.
The Lady Dragons (18-0, 4-0) — who had already knocked off Coleman, Brady and Comanche by a combined score of 47-3 — seized the advantage with three runs in the bottom of the second inning, added a solo run in the third and tacked on three more insurance runs in the sixth.
The Lady Horns (14-9, 2-1) managed their only run in the top of the third inning as Ramsie Rodgers reached on a two-out error that scored Shaunna Kay Pinson, who began the frame with a leadoff single..
Pinson and Sydnee Shea, in the fifth inning, mustered the only two hits allowed by Bangs pitcher Erin Anderson, who went the distance and struck out six while walking three.
Early hurler Makayla DeLeon surrendered seven runs — four earned — on 10 hits with six strikeouts and four walks. Anderson and Vanessa Perez led the charge for the Bangs offense with two hits and one RBI apiece while Taylor Malett — who homered — and Raelee Francois contributed one hits and two RBIs each. Kialie Dodson also chipped in a hit and an RBI, while Ashton Crow and Kynedi Bradley each added a hit.
Bangs struck for three runs off DeLeon in the second as Perez led off with an infield single and advanced to second on a passed ball ahead of an RBI single by Dodson. Bradley then sacrificed Dodson to second before Michaela Light reached on an error. Francois then delivered a two-RBI double to left field.
After Early cut the deficit to 3-1, Bangs answered with a run in the third as Haley Pitts walked with one out, stole second and scored on an RBI double by Perez.
The Lady Dragons’ three-run sixth featured a leadoff bunt single by Bradley, a one-out two-run homer to center field by Malett and an RBI triple by Anderson, which followed a two-out double by Crow.
Bangs has its district bye Tuesday while Early wraps up the first half of 7-3A action at Comanche (10-6, 2-1).
