GEORGETOWN — Andrew Errico aced the 17th hole during the third round of the recent West Region Invitational, hosted by Southwestern University at the Berry Creek Country Club, where the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets finished ninth as a team.
Errico recorded his hole-in-one on the next-to-last hole of the tournament en route to a closing 76 in the 54-hole, three-round event. Errico led Howard Payne with a 16-over par total of 232 (81-75-76), which was good for a tie for 28th place.
Ben Alonso finished tied for 34th with a 234 (79-79-76), Guy Ekstrom came in tied for 48th with a 242 (82-78-82), Jose Hernandez was tied for 58th with a 249 (89-79-81) and True Matthews placed 65th with a 259 (82-84-93).
Alonso and Errico finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in par three scoring.
The Yellow Jackets carded a 950 composite score behind rounds of 324, 311 and 315, which trailed champion Concordia (897) along with Southwestern (902), Mary Hardin-Baylor (903), Texas Lutheran (903), UT-Tyler (906), Schreiner (915), Trinity (929) and Hardin-Simmons (937).
Howard Payne will next compete Monday and Tuesday at the American Southwest Conference Championships at Comanche Trace Country Club in Kerrville.
